Why is it that Acting is the only art that isn’t open to interpretation? While all other art forms are meant to be analyzed, thought about, and interpreted, acting is the opposite. Whether it be in theatre or the movies, everyone judges the actor, thinking their input could improve the performance. I’m sure anyone reading this has at least subconsciously judged an actors work while watching a film. Why is it that people believe they know something about acting that a professional does not, but the same person would never criticize a painting or a sculpture?
Maybe this is because acting truly isn’t an art form? Maybe its just a portion of the art of theatre or film making. Without a director, a designer, and especially a script, there would be no acting. Maybe without any one of those elements, theatre and film would not be able to exist. So if this is true, does that mean that the actor, the script writer, and the designer are by themselves not artists? Or maybe it means the art of theatre and film making is so grand it takes more than one art form to create it. Or maybe it just means that acting is more bullshit than anything else, and needs the help of all these other elements to be created.
In any case, I’m beginning (or continuing) to not give a shit.
